1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.a 2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.b 4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.c 5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6 Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 150 KJVA
Psalm 150:6 is an instruction. As a computer programme is an instruction to the computer hardware, so is this scripture to you and I - “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD”.
From my devotion this morning, the writer once asked a friend
how his mother was getting along, and was told how that dementia had robbed her
of the ability to remember a great many names and events from the past. “Even
so,” he added, “she can still sit down at the piano and, without sheet music,
beautifully play hymns by memory”.
“Plato and Aristotle wrote about the helping, healing
power of music 2,500 years ago. Even, centuries before that, the biblical record
was saturated with song. From the first mention of Jubal, ‘the father of all
those who play the harp and flute’ (Gen. 4:21), to those who ‘sing the song of
Moses, the servant of God and the song of the Lamb’ (Rev. 15:3), the pages of
the Bible resonate with music. The Psalms, often called ‘the Bible’s songbook,’
point us to the love and faithfulness of God. They conclude with an unending
call to worship, ‘Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the
Lord!’ (Ps. 150:6)” ODB, 6th Sept, 2016.
As I started with using computer programming to
illustrate the level of authority that God’s word has to all living
beings, it has been corroborated from the testimony (of the woman suffering from dementia) and writings of
philosophers that music and songs was the right frequency channel of expressing
God’s praises for His many blessings to His people who He'd redeemed through the shedding of blood of His only beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
If you are redeemed, then you have been re-launched to run
God’s programmes (instructions) as computers are designed to run
human-designed programmes. The computer runs the latest available programme to
perform every specific task it is applied to. Likewise, there’s need to seek
God’s counsel for the present in order to remain efficient in running His
errands.
I have learned from my past failures in life that they can be traced to the lack of continuous updating of myself with God’s word for every point in time. The defeats experienced came as a result of this disconnection. As the serpent
was raised in the wilderness for the Israelites to only look and live, so is
Jesus Christ raised for us today (on the cross) that we may keep looking to Him for grace in time of need.
If you find yourself failing to function as you know you ought to as a child of God, you must learn to keep your connection to your source alive and well. He knows your name as the shepherd knows his sheep by whatever identity he attaches to each of them. By strength shall no man prevail. It is only by God's grace that we are more than conquerors.
This is why you and I needed the right foundation to withstand
the storms of this life. There is no better foundation than Jesus Christ, the
Rock of Ages. Our lives become ordered by Him as He speaks to us every day
and moment. It will NOT be a struggle to obey His words as His words instructs us. It would become clearer that in the first place, it wasn’t about
us but about Him (GOD). Just as its not about the computer hardware we use, but the
myriads of human needs and problems gaping for solutions in homes, offices,
businesses, organizations, government, security, health, agriculture, education,
name it...
Finally, God inhabits the praises of His people. If we praise
Him, we shall be filled with His divine presence. Why should we then let the rocks
cry out in our place? Let's praise Him!
